Mental Challenges - Anthropogenic Global Warming Gone Insane

[last update: 2010/02/16]

Anthropogenic global warming is now being blamed for ridiculous things with bizarre proposals to solve it.

This includes psychologists’ brainwashing attempts.

APA - Brainwashing

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/environment/2008-08-13-green-psychology_N.htm

> American Psychologists Association to launch green/brainwashing effort

The American Psychologists Association (APA) wants "to launch a national initiative specifically targeting behavior changes, including developing media messages that will help people reduce their carbon footprint ... stepping up efforts to foster a broader sense of eco-sensitivity that the group believes will translate into more public action to protect the planet". The 148,000-member APA will now participate in the brainwashing trying to turn grey matter green.

"Psychologists need to examine the attitudes and behaviors in the wider context of beliefs about environmental and social change. ...developing an international agenda for psychology and climate change."

> University of the West of England, Centre for Psycho-Social Studies, Conference focus on global warming denial as a psychological condition

The evidence is now irrefutable that man-made climate change poses a huge and unprecedented threat to the global ecosystem and therefore to ourselves. … The extremes of complacency (denial) and despair (retreat), with their common feature of narcissism, are equally lethal in face of this pressing challenge. The conference aims to address the obstacles both to recognition and to effective action.” And “psychological perspectives are of the utmost Importance … Ever since Freud’s discovery that mental health often means thinking the unthinkable, the need to face painful truths and to understand the power of denial has been at the heart of therapeutic work.”

California Fog

> California coast has increased / decreased fog

[2010/02/16]

“Get ready for even foggier summers”: The Bay Area just had its foggiest May in 50 years. And thanks to global warming, I’s about to get even foggier. Scientists began sounding the alarm 20 years ago… the theory then and now, is that the hotter the Central Valley gets, the greater the temperature and pressure gradients between the inland and coast – therefore forming more fog.

“Fog over San Francisco thins by a third due to climate change”: The coastal fog along the Californian coast has declined by a third over the past 100 years … the temperature difference between the coast and interior has declined substantially in the last century, in step with the decline in summer fog … If the fog is gone, we might not have the Redwood forests we do now

> Isolated island population of sheep has a few smaller ones

Thanks to detailed monitoring that began on Hirta in 1986, Coulson and his colleagues could figure out why females in this population are shrinking …Over the past 25 years, spring has shifted two to three weeks earlier in Northern Europe

Unthinking reliance on computer models, ignorance of insular dwarfism. See www.appinsys.com/GlobalWarming/HirtaSheep.htm for more details.

Bridge Collapse

> Minneapolis Interstate 35 W bridge collapse - global warming?

The question remains, do we need to climate-proof our bridges, does a connection exist between climate change and the collapse of the I-35W bridge?

Although the alarmists imply there is a connection it is as usual, bogus. See www.appinsys.com/GlobalWarming/RS_MinnesotaUSA.htm for more details.

Reduced Haggis

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml?xml=/earth/2008/10/08/eahaggis108.xml

> Haggis at Risk From Global Warming: UK Telegraph

Haggis is at risk of dying out due to of global warming. Haggis is made from a sheep's stomach, which is stuffed with oatmeal and minced intestines. But butchers are finding it more and more difficult to get hold of the principle ingredient of sheep's lung, as so many are infected with lung worm. … the veterinary centre manager at the Scottish Agricultural College in Thurso, said the parasite was thriving because it is able to survive in grazing all year round in the warmer climate. … it was a struggle to source lung from Scottish farms so butchers are turning to Ireland instead.

See www.appinsys.com/GlobalWarming/UK_Haggis.htm for more details on the haggis emergency.

Kidney Stones

http://www.auanet.org/media/WebContent/Press_Articles.asp?ArticleNo=45&Area=MEETING or http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/107510.php

> American Urological Association press release: Global Warming May Lead to Increase in Kidney Stones Disease

Rising global temperatures could lead to an increase in kidney stones … researchers applied predictions of temperature increase to determine the impact of global warming on the incidence and cost of stone disease in the United States. … Dehydration has been linked to stone disease, particularly in warmer climates, and global warming will exacerbate this effect. … The southern United States is considered “the stone belt” because these states have higher incidences of kidney stones. Rising global temperatures could expand this region; the fraction of the U.S. population living in high-risk stone zones is predicted to grow from 40 percent in 2000 to 50 percent by 2050

See www.appinsys.com/GlobalWarming/US_KidneyStones.htm for more details on the kidney stone medical studies.

Acne

persistent rise in temperature results in increased activity of sebaceous glands and overproduction of sebum. Overproduction of sebum mixes with dead skin cells and clogs the hair follicles and acne breakouts occurs. Average temperature has considerably risen since 1940 affecting hundreds of biological and ecological system. The persistent rise in temperature greatly influences on your skin and its disorders. Various skin disorders such as acne, scars are the result of global warming and climate change.”

Shark Attacks

In the first four months of this year, there were four fatal shark attacks worldwide, compared with one in the whole of 2007, … Another contributory factor to the location of shark attacks could be global warming and rising sea temperatures.

Earthquakes

http://www.globeinvestor.com/servlet/story/CCNM.20080617.469150_1/GIStory

> Planetary overheating causing earthquakes

The research proves that destructive ability of earthquakes on Earth increases alarmingly fast and that this trend is set to continue, unless the problem of "global warming" is comprehensively and urgently addressed." The story is about a research report called "Earthquake Energy on the Rise" by Tom Chalko in the Natural University Journal of Discovery, Australia. Chalko's report states: "Planetary interior overheating is the most serious consequence of so-called “global warming” and constitutes the main danger for humanity on Earth today. What You Must Do

No Meat In Hospitals

http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2009/jan/26/hospitals-nhs-meat-carbon

> United Kingdom, National Health Service

Hospitals will take meat off menus in bid to cut carbon Meat-free menus are to be promoted in hospitals as part of a strategy to cut global warming emissions across the National Health Service. Dr David Pencheon, director of the NHS sustainable development unit, said the amount of NHS emissions meant it had to act to make cuts.

Toilet Paper

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/feb/26/toilet-roll-america

> NRDC, Greenpeace enviro-extremists

The tenderness of the delicate American buttock is causing more environmental devastation than the country's love of gas-guzzling cars, fast food or McMansions, according to green campaigners. At fault, they say, is the US public's insistence on extra-soft, quilted and multi-ply products when they use the bathroom. … A campaign by Greenpeace seeks to raise consciousness among Americans about the environmental costs of their toilet habits.

===========================================================

The catch here is of course, reality. According to the United Nations, the US is one of the top re-foresting countries in the world http://www.fao.org/forestry/30515/en/:

From 1990 to 2000, the net forest loss was 8.9 million hectares per year. From 2000 to 2005, the net forest loss was 7.3 million hectares per year.

  • The ten countries with the largest net loss of forest per year (2000 – 2005) are: Brazil, Indonesia, Sudan, Myanmar, Zambia Tanzania, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zimbabwe, and Venezuela (combined loss of 8.2 million hectares per year).

  • The ten countries with the largest net gain of forest per year (2000 – 2005) are: China, Spain, Viet Nam, United States, Italy, Chile, Cuba, Bulgaria, France and Portugal (combined gain of 5.1 million hectares per year).

Meat Rationing

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/sep/30/food.ethicalliving

> Food Climate Research Network – University of Surrey (UK)

People will have to be rationed to four modest portions of meat and one litre of milk a week if the world is to avoid run-away climate change, a major new report warns. The report, by the Food Climate Research Network, based at the University of Surrey, also says total food consumption should be reduced, especially "low nutritional value" treats such as alcohol, sweets and chocolates. Tara Garnett, the report's author, warned that campaigns encouraging people to change their habits voluntarily were doomed to fail and urged the government to use caps on greenhouse gas emissions and carbon pricing to ensure changes were made.

IPCC – Reduce Meat

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7600005.stm

> Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)

People should consider eating less meat as a way of combating global warming, says the UN's top climate scientist. UN figures suggest that meat production puts more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than transport. Dr Pachauri has just been re-appointed for a second six-year term as chairman. "The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has estimated that direct emissions from meat production account for about 18% of the world's total greenhouse gas emissions," he told BBC News. Transport, by contrast, accounts for just 13% of humankind's greenhouse gas footprint, according to the IPCC.

Al Gore – Civil Disobedience

http://www.reuters.com/article/environmentNews/idUSTRE48N7AA20080924

> Al Gore – The Moral Crusader

Nobel Peace Prize winner and environmental crusader Al Gore urged young people on Wednesday to engage in civil disobedience to stop the construction of coal plants without the ability to store carbon. "I believe for a carbon company to spend money convincing the stock-buying public that the risk from the global climate crisis is not that great represents a form of stock fraud because they are misrepresenting a material fact," he said. "I hope these state attorney generals around the country will take some action on that.”

He must have been encouraged by the UK ruling: "UK Court Rules Activists May Damage Coal-Fired Power Plants", a case in which the Greenpeace defendants caused 30,000 pounds damage to a coal plant and at which NASA's James Hansen testified on their behalf.
